UX Design Project 1

Artsy Artist Bio App

Artist bio mobile app for an art gallery which has accessibility for any users.

About this project

The problem: Art lovers who don’t always have time to go to the galleries or sometimes need online advice

The Goal: Design an app to help people listen and watch artist bios and shop to the online art store.

My role: UX Designer designing Artsy- an artist bio app, UX Research, UX Analysis, UI Design System, Wireframing, Prototyping

Responsibilities: User research, paper and digital wire framing, prototyping, usability study, creating mockups, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

User research

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I am designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through research was art lovers. This user group confirmed initial assumptions about Artsy browsers.

Pain Points

                 1 Time

Professionals who have a busy work schedule can’t find time to go to art galleries most of the time

            2 Accessibility

Art Apps can be more limited for the people who has impairment

                  3 IA

Artist bios can be difficult to figure out if the app doesn’t give you enough direction

Persona : Andrea

Problem statement  Andrea is a hotel manager with visual impairment who needs an art app with artist bios because he wants to decorate his hotel.

Paper wireframes

From the beginning I aimed for a clean, easy to use design. The home page welcomes everyone who has accessibility needs.

Digital wireframes

As the initial design phase continued, I made sure to base screen designs on feedback and findings from the user research. Listening mode and Languages were key user needs to address in the design.

Low-fidelity prototype

When the wire frames has finished I created a low fidelity prototype

Usability study: findings

Round 1 findings

1  Users want My Profile Icon more clear

2  Users want better cues for finding pages

3  Users want more simple pages

Round 2 findings

Art shop and Artist bios don’t have enough explanation

2  Art shop section is confusing

High Fidelity Prototypes

I have changed almost everything after usability studies. I made it tidier and more easy to use. I deleted unnecessary buttons and icons.

I have changed the Art Shop part after usability study 2. It was divided into 3 categories and confusing the user, I made it easier to logging with one click. I also added descriptions to make it easy to login Artist bios and Art shop.

Accessibility considerations

1

I used contrasting colours to make text easy to read.

2

I used icons and words to make it easy to understand.

3

I used gestures and motions to reach the same point in different ways

Takeaways

Impact

The app makes users feel like they can appreciate art and get to know artists from their phone.

One quote from peer back:

‘’I never knew art could be so accessible. I feel confident to buy arts now!’’

What I learned:

While designing the Artsy Artist bio app, I learned that the first ideas for the app are only the beginning of the process. Usability studies and peer feedback influence each iteration of the app’s designs.

Next Steps

1

Conduct another round of usability studies to validate whether the pain points users experienced have been effectively addressed

2

Conduct more user research to determine any new areas of need.
